Using a kitchen compost pail is a temporary, convenient and sanitary way of storing organic food wastes in the kitchen before they are unloaded into the composter itself. This saves a lot of walks from the kitchen to the composter. They come in different designs and sizes, each suited to different types of kitchens.

Pinzon manufactures a standard ceramic kitchen compost pail which has a capacity of 1 gallon. The material which it is made of, that is white ceramic is very sturdy. The finishing is ideal for kitchen counters. Such a pail has a smooth finish and a large handle. It can be easily hand washed. The Pinzon kitchen compost pail has a filter included. These filters easily fit inside the lid. They trap odor from the food scraps and other organic material that is stored inside the compost pail. They can be rinsed and reused. One filter lasts for around 2 months after which it must be changed.
Norpro on the other hand not only manufactures ceramic kitchen compost pail but also stainless steel pails. The Norpro ceramic pail also has a capacity of 1 gallon. The lid of these pails includes a charcoal filter, which prevents odor can last for upto 6 months, unlike the Pinzon pail filter which only last for 2 to 3 months. These filters can be cleaned. And the pails can be washed as well.
The Norpro stainless steel compost pail is made of durable stainless steel. These pails have a satin smooth finish. They measure up to 10.5X8X8 inches. This size is a little smaller than the white ceramic pail. Thus Norpro provides its customers with an option of buying a smaller pail, according to their needs. But the stainless steel pail is more expensive than the ceramic one. It costs almost double. The design of these pails is such that they look very pretty sitting on the kitchen counter top. These bins have screw holes in the back, thus they can easily hang on a wall or the back of a cupboard door. The mouth of the pail is very wide, thereby allowing transferring all food remains directly from the dinner plate. The Busch pails may not be as attractive as the ones manufactured by Pinzon and Norpro, but they are more useful.
